The Greene County Community Foundation board had a long but productive meeting Saturday morning. Reading and evaluating grant applications was the business of the day. The board read 19 grant applications requesting a total of $146,858. The board was able to provide just more than $118,000 for 17 projects.
The grants will be awarded Monday, March 30, at 7 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson.
Since 2006, the Community Foundation has awarded $776,212 to 176 different projects. The money has come from gaming revenue designated for non-gaming counties. With the opening of Wild Rose Jefferson, Greene County will no longer receive state gaming revenues, but will be funded directly by Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation. While Grow Greene County has not yet determined how it will disburse funds, the Community Foundation has been assured it will play a role in distributing gaming funds.
